- Pedro Menendez de Aviles – Spaniard who founded St. Augustine, Florida, Former Governor of St. Augustine and was a classic example of the conquistador—intrepid, energetic, loyal, and brutal.
- Governor Grant – Old Kings Road was built about 1766 when Colonel James Grant was governor of British East Florida
- Mr. Timucuan – The Timucua were a Native American people who lived in Northeast and North Central Florida and southeast Georgia.
- Joseph Hernandez – Jose was elected Florida’s first Delegate the United States House of Representatives and was approved by President James Monroe on September 30, 1822. He thus became the first Hispanic ever to serve in the U.S. Congress. He served for six months, leaving office on March 3, 1823.
- Juan Ponce de Leon – In 1513, Ponce de León led the first known European expedition to La Florida, which he named during his first voyage to the area.
- Andrew Jackson – He was an American lawyer, planter, general, and statesman who served as the seventh president of the United States from 1829 to 1837. Jackson has also been criticized for his racial policies, particularly his treatment of Native Americans. See next issue for answers.
