Laura Defranco of Fordney Place, Palm Coast has been recognized as March 2024 Selection of the Month by The Garden Club at Palm Coast.
Laura found her interest in gardening as a young girl following her Italian grandparents around the garden in Connecticut. Laura moved to Palm Coast in 2013.
Laura has an eye for color and her garden beds are a way of expressing herself artistically.
She has over 30 different varieties of plants, bushes, and trees, with a century plant as focal point in her front bed. Her favorites are bromeliads, kalanchoes, and especially the coral-colored geraniums that she was given by a former member of the Garden Club, Marian Handshur. Marian passed away in 2018, but her memory and flowers live on in Laura’s yard and flower beds, especially these very hardy geraniums, and they seem to bloom almost year-round. Marian had also given her a crinum lily and cardboard palm.
If you walk through the yard heading to the back, you will also see the following: Several types of palm trees, banana trees, crotons, evening jasmine, variegated hibiscus, Crepe myrtles, canna lilies, a giant philodendron, ligustrum, firecracker bush, Hawaiian Ti, staghorn fern and Christmas cactus.
This yard represents a true passion and love for gardening in Florida.
