Hurricane Milton Update for October 7, 2024

On Monday, October 7, 2024, Mayor David Alfin signed a proclamation declaring a local state of emergency for the City of Palm Coast. This allows the City to obtain emergency resources and allows state and federal resources to flow quickly to the area.

Gov. Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 24-215 on October 6, declaring a state of emergency for 35 Florida counties, including Flagler.

Flagler County and the City of Palm Coast can expect Tropical Storm-force conditions with the possibility of Category 1 Hurricane conditions beginning Wednesday afternoon through Thursday midday. This includes strong winds and 10-12 inches of rain. 

Important updates for the City of Palm Coast:

  • The City’s Customer Service call center is operating on a 12-hour basis, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the potential to increase to 24-hour operations until the storm passes. Please remember, City staff can only assist with city-related issues. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please dial 9-1-1. The Customer Service phone number is 386-986-2360 or residents can submit a case through Palm Coast Connect
  • The Utility Drive lobby at 2 Utility Drive is closed to the public effective October 8, 2024. All resources have been reassigned to storm-related duties. 
  • Garbage collection services have been canceled for Wednesday, October 9, 2024, and Thursday, October 10, 2024. This includes yard debris and recycling. The next pickup day will be the regularly scheduled pickup day. 
  • Two sandbag locations are now open in the City of Palm Coast. There is a limit of ten sandbags per household. Palm Coast residents in need of sandbags may visit the following locations:
    • Indian Trails Sports Complex, 5455 Belle Terre Pkwy, Palm Coast. This is a self-service station, and residents must be able to fill and load the sandbags into their vehicles. Sand and sandbags are available. Please bring a shovel. 
    • 100 Fin Way at the corner of Belle Terre Boulevard south of State Road 100. This is a self-service station but assistance will also be provided beginning Monday, October 7, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and again on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 8 a.m.  
  • Additional sandbag locations are available throughout Flagler County. All stations are self-service and have a limit of ten sandbags per household. Please bring a shovel.
    • Hidden Trails Community Center, 6108 Mahogany Blvd, Bunnell. Open Monday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. 
    • Bay Drive Park, 30 Bay Dr, The Hammock. Open Monday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. 
    • City of Flagler Beach: Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, 915 North Central Ave., Flagler Beach. Open Monday: Starting at 9 a.m. 
    • Flagler Beach Fire Station, 320 S. Flagler Ave., Flagler Beach. Open Monday: Starting at 9 a.m. 
  • In the event of a power outage, if your residence uses a PEP tank system, conserve water as much as possible. Water usage during these times could risk waste backing up into homes. Learn more about PEP tanks during a storm here: https://www.palmcoast.gov/emergency/pep-tanks-during-a-storm

Event Postponements: 

  • The City Council Workshop meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 9 a.m. has been postponed and will be rescheduled.
  • The groundbreaking ceremony for Fire Station 26, scheduled for Thursday, October 10, 2024, has been postponed and will be rescheduled. 
  • The Town Hall meeting with Council Member Pontieri, scheduled for Thursday, October 10, 2024, has been postponed and will be rescheduled. 

Throughout the storm, your city will be providing residents with the most up-to-date information available through various means, including:

  • PalmCoast.gov – Palmcoast.gov is in Emergency Mode for the duration of the storm and will provide you with information on Emergency Preparedness, sandbag locations, evacuation zones, trash schedules, PEP tank information, easy access to Palm Coast Connect, and more.

  • Social Media – Your City is ready and able to communicate with you across many social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Nextdoor, and Twitter. We encourage you to connect with us on those platforms now so you have access to updates during the storm.
