The City of Palm Coast is excited to announce the installation of three new “Free Little Library” stations, offering residents a convenient way to borrow and donate books. These new stations are located at the Palm Coast Community Center, the Southern Recreation Center, and Central Park in front of City Hall, furthering the city’s commitment to fostering a love of reading and learning.
The addition at the Community Center is particularly special, as it will be a second “Free Little Library” positioned lower to the ground, making it easily accessible for our youngest readers.
This initiative was made possible through a collaborative effort between the Parks and Recreation Department and Stephen Wilcox, an Eagle Scout and dedicated member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 400 out of Bunnell. Stephen took the lead on this project as part of his commitment to the community and his passion for reading.
“I realized I had many books at home that were handed down to me from my older siblings that I just didn’t read anymore,” said Stephen of his project. “I wanted to give other kids access to those books and encourage them to read. I hope these new ‘Free Little Libraries’ help more kids discover the joy of reading.”
Parks and Recreation Director James Hirst expressed his gratitude for Stephen’s efforts and highlighted the ongoing partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department. “This project is a shining example of our commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Palm Coast,” said Hirst. “We are incredibly proud of Stephen for taking the initiative to bring these ‘Free Little Libraries’ to our community.” Mayor Alfin echoed these sentiments, adding, “This initiative aligns perfectly with our mission in Parks and Recreation to foster community engagement and provide enriching experiences for our residents.”
The City of Palm Coast invites all residents to explore the new “Free Little Libraries” and participate in this community-driven effort to promote literacy and sharing. Whether you’re looking to discover a new book or pass on a favorite, these stations are here to serve you.
