The city of Palm Coast was originally created from a 48,000 acre tract of land which was part of a parcel that the American corporation ITT purchased in the late 60s to create a planned community. The company offered amenities — golf, tennis, boating and swimming — as activities for its residents. The first golf course was opened on September 17, 1971 and was named the Palm Coast Golf Club.
