Barnum
The Flagler Playhouse is excited to announce that Barnum, the world-famous stage production about history’s most iconic ringleader, is coming to town this month. Showing from April 21st through May 7th, playgoers are sure to have a blast experiencing this faithful rendition of a modern stage classic.
Barnum is the musical telling of the life of P.T. Barnum, particularly how he built up his world famous Barnum & Bailey Circus. It features a thrilling recreation of the circus’ jugglers, trapeze artists, tightrope walkers, clowns, and much more. It debuted on Broadway in 1980, before later showing in the West End, and in Madrid and Chichester, and on tour in the United Kingdom. Director and choreographer Joe Layton was awarded with a prestigious Tony Award for his work bringing the story of P.T. Barnum to the stage over four decades ago.
A collection of iconic musical numbers from Cy Coleman and Michael Stewart’s score are to be expected, including “There’s a Sucker Born Every Minute”, “Join the Circus”, “The Colors of My Life”, and “Come Follow the Band”. Work was already underway almost a whole month out from opening night; the Flagler Playhouse shared some of the hard work of their stagehands back on March 26th.
Admission for the play is $30 for any given night. 2:00 pm Matinee showings are available on three Sundays: April 23rd, April 30th, and May 7th. The rest of the showings will begin at 7:30 pm, on April 21, 22, 28, and 29, and May 5 and 6.
The Flagler Playhouse was founded in 1978, moving locations around Flagler County multiple times before landing in its current Bunnell home.
